Gordon Knight Obituary, Death: Amy Roloff’s Father Dies at 97 After a Remarkable Life of Service and Family
Gordon G. Knight, the father of Little People, Big World star Amy Roloff, has died at the age of 97. Remembered for his devotion to family, generous spirit, sharp sense of humour, and decades of professional service, Knight leaves behind a legacy cherished by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Knight died on October 5, 2026, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. His death was shared publicly on October 27, when his grandson Jacob Roloff posted a heartfelt tribute reflecting on their relationship and the memories they made together.
Born on January 1, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan, Knight lived through nearly a century of change. He served during the Korean War before building a long career as a civil and structural engineer with Ford Motor Company, where he worked for 30 years. Beyond his professional achievements, he enjoyed reading, creating and building things, and participating in historical reenactments with his late wife, Patricia Knight.
Family remained central to his life. Jacob remembered visiting his grandparents in Michigan as a child and returning to spend time with his grandfather in recent years. He described Knight as someone who remained active, sociable, kind, and curious well into old age. He also recalled his grandfather’s welcoming smile and the joy Knight found in having relatives gather at the cabin he and Patricia built.
Amy Roloff responded to her son’s tribute by sharing her own grief, writing that she would miss her father and treasure the many memories they shared. She had previously celebrated their relationship in a Father’s Day message, encouraging people to appreciate the moments they have with loved ones.
Knight was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, and daughter Cynthia. He is survived by children Kathryn, Amy, and Roger, along with eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service is scheduled for January 5, 2027, at North Lake United Methodist Church in Chelsea, Michigan.
As relatives and friends remember Gordon Knight, his life stands as a testament to family devotion, service, resilience, and the lasting influence of a person who made others feel valued.
