Laura Cullinan Obituary, Death: Peoria Philanthropist Dies at 50 in Fatal UTV Crash
Laura S. Cullinan, a respected Peoria-area philanthropist and community leader, has died at the age of 50 following a fatal utility task vehicle (UTV) crash in Peoria County, Illinois. Her death has prompted an outpouring of grief from civic leaders and charitable organisations that benefited from her commitment to strengthening the community.
Cullinan, of Edwards, Illinois, died late Saturday, October 24, 2026, after a UTV overturned on private property near the 5600 block of North Kickapoo-Edwards Road. According to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office, the vehicle left a paved driveway or path, struck a wooden post, and rolled over. Four people were aboard, and Cullinan was found partially pinned beneath the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner reported severe blunt-force injuries to her head and chest.
At the time of her death, Cullinan served as president of the Gilmore Foundation, a philanthropic organisation supporting initiatives throughout the greater Peoria region. Under its work, the foundation contributed to projects involving education, healthcare, arts and culture, and community development. Its grants supported institutions and programmes intended to expand opportunities and improve residents’ quality of life.
Cullinan also advised the Greater Peoria Leadership Council and contributed to regional civic initiatives. Peoria Mayor Rita Ali described her as a remarkable leader with a generous heart who consistently worked to make the region better. Leaders from local cultural and charitable organisations similarly recognised the lasting value of her work and her belief in the community’s potential.
The crash remains under investigation. Joshua A. Bellamy, 52, the UTV’s driver, was charged with aggravated driving under the influence. Authorities reported signs of impairment, and toxicology testing remains pending. The charge is an allegation, and the investigation continues.
As the Peoria community mourns, Cullinan’s legacy is reflected in the organisations she supported, the partnerships she helped build, and the opportunities her philanthropic leadership helped create. Local leaders have encouraged residents to honour her memory by continuing the community-minded work to which she devoted so much of her life.
