ALEXANDRIA, Virginia — October 23, 2026 — Residents searching for updates on a power outage in Alexandria’s West End should check current utility information before relying on reports of a completed restoration. The latest matching local news coverage reviewed describes an outage on October 12, when thousands of Dominion Energy customers lost electricity across parts of the West End. A separate widespread outage today could not be confirmed.
On October 12, Dominion Energy customers experienced interruptions in neighborhoods near Duke Street, Edsall Road and Interstate 395, with some outages extending into Fairfax County. ALXnow reported that more than 2,200 customers were without power at approximately 3:15 p.m.
Later that afternoon, Alexandria Brief reported that 565 customers remained affected and traffic signals were out at several intersections. Police advised motorists to treat affected intersections as four-way stops while the utility investigated the cause. Dominion’s estimate at that point projected restoration between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.
The October 12 reports included estimated restoration times, but they do not independently confirm the final restoration status for every affected customer. They also do not establish that a new outage occurred today, October 23.
Customers experiencing an interruption should consult Dominion Energy’s official outage information for current outage locations, estimated restoration times and service updates.
When traffic signals are not operating, drivers should stop and proceed cautiously according to applicable traffic rules. Residents should also keep away from downed power lines and report electrical hazards directly to the utility.
People who rely on powered medical equipment should have an emergency backup plan in case of an extended interruption.
