Jeremy Kaufman, Obituary, Death: Chicago Real Estate Investor and Poker Player, Dies at 56

Jeremy Kaufman, a successful Chicago-based real estate investor and popular high-stakes poker player, has died unexpectedly at the age of 56. His passing has prompted an outpouring of tributes from friends, business associates, and members of the poker community who remember him for his humor, generosity, and positive outlook.

Kaufman was the chief executive officer of Kaufman Jacobs, a boutique real estate investment firm. According to the company’s official profile, he became CEO in 2002 and built extensive experience in real estate, structured finance, and project development. His work included acquisitions, development, and financing across a portfolio of properties valued at more than $1 billion.

Away from business, Kaufman became a familiar face in high-stakes poker circles. He appeared on shows including Poker Night in America, Hustler Casino Live, and Poker at the Lodge. His entertaining playing style and easygoing manner helped him build lasting friendships with professional players and fellow enthusiasts.

Ryan Feldman, co-founder of Hustler Casino Live and a close friend, described Kaufman as someone who was always smiling and making people laugh. Fellow poker player Mike Matusow paid tribute to his closest friend, recalling their long conversations about life and poker. Phil Hellmuth also remembered Kaufman’s kindness, noting that even his playful table banter was delivered with warmth and genuine concern for others.

Kaufman’s death leaves behind three teenage children, along with many friends and colleagues who valued his company. Although poker brought him into the public eye, those who knew him emphasized that his defining qualities extended beyond the game: his humor, generosity, and ability to remain gracious during difficult moments.

The circumstances surrounding his unexpected death have not been publicly established in the reports reviewed. No cause of death should be assumed.

As tributes continue to emerge, Jeremy Kaufman is being remembered as a devoted father, accomplished businessman, and beloved member of the poker community. His legacy will live on in the relationships he built and the memories shared by those whose lives he touched.
