Kamloops Fire Update: Jacko Lake Wildfire Was Held at 44 Hectares

KAMLOOPS, BRITISH COLUMBIA — October 23, 2026 — A wildfire near Jacko Lake, south of Kamloops, was brought to a “being held” status in August, according to local media reports citing the BC Wildfire Service. However, no new report confirming a wildfire at the same location or its current status was located for October 23.

The Jacko Lake wildfire was reported on August 22, 2026, east of Jacko Lake and south of Kamloops’ Aberdeen neighbourhood. Initially estimated at approximately six hectares, the fire grew during the afternoon before the BC Wildfire Service reported it at 44 hectares and classified it as “being held” that evening.

That classification means crews expect the fire to remain within its existing boundaries under the prevailing weather, fuel and resource conditions. It does not mean the fire is fully extinguished.

The response included approximately 19 firefighters, helicopters and airtankers. Crews worked to strengthen containment lines and assess hazardous trees. Officials suspected lightning was responsible for the ignition.

At the time of the reports, authorities said the fire was not threatening structures, and no evacuation alerts or orders had been issued specifically for the Jacko Lake blaze.

The August reports document progress in containing the fire, but they do not establish its status on October 23. Residents should check the official BC Wildfire Service dashboard for the latest incident information and follow any local emergency alerts.
